Can they call up my mormon family and tell them I'm trying to resign when I send the letter in? Or can they send them some kind of notification that I have resigned?

All I can say is that you can threaten legal action if any member of your family is contacted or any confidentiality is being breached during the transition process or after the resignation is completed.

They will do what they want.
If they think contacting your family will somehow keep you in the church, they will do it.
They will try to get your family to pressure you to reverse your decision to leave.
After police talk to them personally, they may stop.
But before any police meet with them, and unless they have been threatened by an attorney,
they will contact your family and friends, maybe not all, maybe just the more influential ones
- parent, bishop, elders quorum president - and have them "visit" with you, "just to see how you are".

In hindsight, I now wish that when I realized what was happening in my case,
that I would have kept contact with my former friends. Even if as tbms they wouldn't talk to me today,
I would know that I could have let them know my side of the story.

Member records told me no. But I sent them a copy of my e-mail anyway b4 I was told this thinking they'd notify them & also to say that I didn't care- they have no influence on me since I know mine doesn't care if I live or die so why spend eternity with them? Forget them & the whole LDS church :frown:
