Because of Romney, many who were unaware of the odd history of Mormonism, will soon have the facts spread before them. That’s right: There are teachings which the Church has done much to cover up; which no doubt will come under the spotlight. Here are a few examples from the Journal of Discourses:
Brigham Young said:
“We can pick out Elders in Israel right here who can beat the world at gambling, who can handle the cards, cut and shuffle them with the smartest rogue on the face of God's foot-stool. I can produce Elders here who can shave their smartest shavers, and take their money from them. We can beat the world at any game.” — JoD 4:76-77 (Nov 9, 1856)
Young went on to say:
“…every spirit that does not confess that God has sent Joseph Smith, and revealed the everlasting Gospel to and through him, is of Antichrist, no matter whether it is found in a pulpit [p.177] or on a throne, nor how much divinity it may profess, nor what it professes with regard to revealed religion and the account that is given of the Saviour and his Father in the Bible. They may say that they acknowledge Him until doomsday, and he will never own them, nor bestow the Holy Spirit upon them, and they will never have visions of eternity opened to them, unless they acknowledge that Joseph Smith is sent of God. Such people I call unbelievers. They tell about believing in Jesus Christ, but they might as well talk about birds understanding the Hebrew language… ” — JoD 8:176 (September 9, 1860)
Young also said,
“…I would like the President of the United States and all the world to hear this. Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so.” — JoD: vol.10 p. 110: (March 8, 1863)
My guess is that Mitt is hoping the current President of the United States and all the world will not hear about this last quote!

To be elected President, Mitt Romney will have to say that Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, and others were teaching false doctrines.
Holy cow. I can't imagine how that will pan out.

As we get closer to the polls, methinks there will be more brought up about his religious affiliation and the real history of the allegorical institution. In my book, Romneys 'religion' is fair game for the press.

Perhaps Romney is both nearly a wimp and a loser until he successfully is able to timely deal with his Mormonism.

When prestigious individuals such as Romney, run for a public office, the public at large seems to want to know all there is about the individul...warts and all. Getting the Mittster elected will put even more pressure on the church via honest inquiries...and with the internet and other social media services the antics of this business will be known to more and more investigators. I think this is something they haven't experienced before....honest people using the information highway to eliminate, and clearly see through the smoke and mirrors....

Yea, honest investigators may discover that another dead former inhabitant of America was guarding another deposit of hidden treasure at the same time Smith was trying to obtain the plates. And, today’s story of the golden plates is nothing like versions Smith initially told. Mom makes this clear in her history. Martin claims Smith found them by looking in his glass, and Smith’s best friend spelled out a similar story and so did his father in law.
How many LDS members today know that bringing the right person was once the key to obtaining the plates? Or, that Smith was once hurled back for setting them on the ground?
Today most LDS think that the four year from when Smith first learned of the plates was the plan from the beginning; not so according to early sources. And then there is this odd twist:
Quote:
“Joseph Smith recorded in his 1832-34 diary that because he sought the plates for impure motives he was prevented from acquiring them until he was 21 years old:
‘for now I had been tempted of the advisary and sought the Plates to obtain riches and kept not the commandments that I should have an eye single to the glory of God therefore I was chastened and sought diligently to obtain the plates and obtain them not until I was twenty one years of age...’ (Page 5, lines 1-5)
Obviously, this runs contrary to earlier accounts, such as the one written by Joseph Knight, where the personage promised Smith that he could have the plates next September 22nd if he brought the right person.” (http://richkelsey.org/STORY%204.htm#_ednref48)

Sounds like Joseph was a chronic liar and had trouble keeping all his stories straight..
