Last week I heard 2 wards in the Greater Toronto Area were merging back into 1 ward.
At the time, I remember the "Wow, see how fast the church is growing?!" comments when the 1st ward split into 2 wards.
And I thought, none of my friends would ever join this thing so where are all these people coming from.
Not to be disrespectful but a lot of the new Mormons back then were more than just a little "socially awkward" - if you catch my drift.
One of the newbies was around 30-years-old and wore Buddy Holly glasses. He came right up to me after church one day and told me
he wanted to teach me how to wrestle - I was about 17 : /
Now, many years later, I doubt there will be many "Wow, see how fast the people are leaving?!" comments and I can't help but
wonder how Salt Lake will explain this latest "change".

I went to a non-LDS church and they asked people there for the first time to raise their hands.
Each week they do this and each week people raise their hands.

If I think back to the mormon days, when this happened it was almost always family visiting. Almost never a new investigator.

I am not a Mormon but I posted a thread about Mormon background checks on new "converts." If they find someone is a predator and there is proof, are they so desperate for converts that they would allow that person to remain?

Prolly depends on the bishop involved as to whether or not any obligatory repentance is acceptable for continued membership. If he was a savvy leader he'd probably check in with any local law enforcement for further dicernment.
