Finally, today, the Salt Lake Tribune published an article indicating their slowest growth in 80 years. News like that has been a long time coming. at least for me. How about the readership here?

Of course they'll all be saying, "It's a sign of the times! The wheat is being separated from the tares."

Since I'm not accomplished at predicting future events, I will say this, there will always be those "slow learners" who fail to find out where their own truth lies, but believe and follow the so called truths of others like Joseph Smith and or Brigham Young for example.

Several speakers at the last Church Conference urged members to get involved in "service." It was clear that what was meant was service to your family, service to the Church, and service to God. No emphasis on service to outsiders. Mormons are not much into Good-Samaritanism. Remember the old saying, "We take care of our own" and "They take care of their own." It wasn't just that they kept their own off the dole. It was also that they didn't take care of anyone else.

So why the emphasis on service? The details included studying the approved material on the Book of Mormon and obeying leaders, inviting non-members to church and studying Mormonism using approved manuals and books. The emphasis on "service" is a tactic - a good one, a widely used one, not a bad one in itself - to get members so involved in the organization itself, that they will be less likely to be distracted, let alone persuaded by non-Mormon influences - like true history (even if it falls in the category of "Not all history is 'useful'."), critical study of the Bible (and even of the Book of Mormon!), and the discrepancies in Mormonism that are positively glaring to one willing to deal with them.

Their plans won't work. The only hope for the Mormon Church is to become almost totally mainstream, as the Worldwide Church of God had to do, and as the Reorganized Church has done. If they join the other band of Mormonism's infamous "two churches only", then they will not lose members at such an incredibly fatal rate.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirtland_Temple

Has anyone or is anyone here likely to have visited the meeting house of the Kirtland Community Of Christ group? I can tell you from actual experience, it's a little tiny putt-putt, know almost nothing, quaint little gathering on Sundays.

You can almost see and feel the hand of God there. He smashed it into smithereens.

Doesn't hold (for me) anything much more than almost a gawking fascination, the kind of interest one might have on maybe a tour of any airplane crash site.

Me thinks that the current "handlers" in the COB in Salt Lake City, wouldn't let their ownership of church buildings slip into livestock receivership status without some serious compensation.
