Religion asks you to change so you can follow.
Jesus asks you to follow and you will be changed.

Is there something wrong with people just being who they are Lilly? Why is change needed or even necessary, in order to follow?

It doesn't mean that! It means we are accepted exactly as we are. But we may find we get even better. I certainly hope so anyway!

But what I absolutely know is that validation is so important, it is so important that we don't invalidate our own journeys and that we seek never to invalidate the chosen journey of another and this is very different from disagreeing with any point, as I know you know :)

Because I have seen how very dangerous it is to a person's persona when invalidation occurs and sometimes it takes a while before someone can stand up and take it on all fronts from everyone. So even when we don't actually agree with them, it is important to say I am with you, I'll walk with you a bit, you have a right to believe as you choose to, perhaps I don't agree with your conclusions but they are your conclusions to make and you are not alone in them. It can be a very valid choice for you and you have a right to make it.

Validation is also important when we recognise that we have made mistakes. I have no intention of taking down the framed letter that I have from the SP that he wrote to me after I spoke at Stake Conference. And that is nothing about the church hypocrisy and deceit and lies, it is because that meant a lot to me and that value is important to me even now, because it is part of my journey. And it shows me how strong I am.

So we should show respect and recognise that this journey is hard and yes we need to be clear and strong in our determination to walk away and to assist others to do so in every way that we can and recognise that humanity is fragile and we lose everything if we are not kind to each other.

I know you live by all of this and I am grateful, as you know.

And whilst I am on this line of thought, I just remembered an excellent television programme I saw about 10 years ago, about the life of a center that was helping people who had mental health challenges in many forms. A man and a lady who used the center had formed a relationship and the interviewer asked the chap if he wished he had met the lady before she had become so unwell. And he said No, who she was now was who he loved. It was s o powerful, I have remembered it all these years. And it makes exactly your original point doesn't it. We can just be who we are.

There was another man who helped out in the cafe part of the center. He was so happy he was volunteering there. He said that it helped him so much when he saw people getting better again and he knew he had been part of their journey towards that, just by making a cup of tea and being friendly. It is why I shall always remember last Friday, not as the day that the court case was initially heard, but because it was the day that you called me 'my dear'. The little things very much matter, they make all the difference. Thank you.

Lilly, thank you for your thoughtful reply here. Putting or framing your reply better in your own sincere manner does help my accepting our differences in thought. And YES, U R still a "dear" in my book! You most assuredly deserve recognition for what you do and who you are.

I love that statement. Brilliant, you are reminding me of where I came from and who I am.
