Quote:
Ann Romney said that “it’s hard work micromanaging a full staff in multiple homes. There were several nannies to oversee, as well as a number of maids, butlers, chauffeurs, gardeners, tutors and private coaches. My struggles were not easy, but neither are the struggles of other stay-at-home moms all across the nation.

How more disconnected can you get Ann?

EDIT: Note, this is FAKE. It is satire and was expoed 4/15.

Oh poor Ann. It's a good thing that she's a mormon as now she has all the support from the Relief Society to help to ease her burden.

Yeah, dealing with multiple nannies. Wow. Must be stressful. Certainly more than raising 3 kids on a shoestring while paying 10% into the morg and having to do stupid chores for the church on a Saturday when I should've been home working on the house or raising my kids. Damn near ready to shed a tear for the poor girl.

Yeah I just heard about this today.

Still, she grew up a millionaire. She is far removed from the middle class. She isn't balancing paying bills and buying food at Walmart.

It isn't a crime to be rich.

It just urks me that rich people live in a society we don't. We live paycheck to paycheck. We live in a world of layoffs, unemployment, rising fuel and food costs.

We watch Republicans like Romney who buy up the companies we work for, chop them up and sell them off - putting us out of work. Romney makes big money off this and buys million dollar homes in places like Park City Utah.

We watch political groups like Romney who chop up government assistance programs that help people that are so far removed from Romney - he can't even begin to understand them. People who are at or below poverty level in income. Meanwhile, he hands off tax cuts to those making 10, 20, 50 times the poverty level. His groups remove restrictions on companies that put balances and checks in place to protect those at or below the poverty level, or even the middle class. Those companies then run rampant and then we get financially hurt by it.

I know this belongs now in Politics and I'll move it there.

I'm full on Democrat, but the GOP is so far removed from the common American this go around it is frightening. And seeing them attack women's rights discourages me even more.

Yeah the Romneys have no clue about the middle class.

"I have some great friends that are NASCAR team owners"
"I get speakers' fees from time to time, but not very much (374,000 dollars)"
"If you don't like what [insurers] do, you could fire them. I like being able to fire people who provide services to me"
"Rick, I'll tell you what. Ten thousand bucks? Ten thousand dollar bet?"
"Corporations are people, my friend"

Other gems:
"I'm not a big-game hunter. I've made that very clear. I've always been a rodent and rabbit hunter. Small varmints, if you will. I began when I was 15 or so and I have hunted those kinds of varmints since then. More than two times"
"Her positions are not terribly relevant to my campaign" - In reference to his wife Ann who donated 150 bucks to Planned Parenthood about 10 years ago

Don't know if you all have seen this video yet either... this is great

Ah yes, Steve Benson.

The man stood up for the truth and the LDS Church suffered.

He has quite the testimony; here is a small part of it:
Quote:
In September, Benson was granted a special audience in Salt Lake City with two of the church's leading apostles, Dallin Oaks and Neal Maxwell. He was allowed to ask questions of a confidential nature about church matters only because of his family ties to the prophet and his professional status as a member of the media. Later, Benson said, he broke the confidence when he believed that Oaks had lied to a reporter about what was said in the meeting.
"He has committed a public act of deception, dishonesty and moral criminality," Benson said. "What do you do? I really wrestled with that."
Not long after that, he and his wife submitted their resignations from the church, and in November, the resignations were accepted. The couple will let their children decide on their own whether to stay in the church, he said.
"I will not allow myself to be abused in this kind of dysfunctional system, where they try to manipulate me, control me, silence me, try to deny my right to speak out," Benson said. "Because if we don't have the individual right to speak out, what are we?"
Months later, old family ties continue to fester, he said, especially those with his parents.
"There's a sense of pain and a loss I detect every time I talk with them. I think they kinda wish things would be back the way they were, but they never will. I know there's a price to be paid."

…he said. "I wanted to be a good Mormon, but at the same time, I wanted to be truthful, I wanted to be honest and I wanted to be a good journalist. I found over time I could not be a good Mormon and an honest individual. I kinda had to make a choice." -- Steve Benson

Not to be a killjoy, and I know this kind of digging sometimes riles folks, in the spirit of fairness, I have to report that one person wrote this at http://www.policymic.com/articles/6911/no-hilary-rosen-ann-romney-is-a-rockstar-mom-who-works-every-day-of-her-life:
Quote:
Not only has Ann Romney been working and raising 5 boys, she also boasts a long list of accomplishments and public service:
Since being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1998, she has been
an active Board Member of the New England Chapter of the MS Society.
She has been a leading fundraiser for advocacy and research for MS.
Governor’s Liaison to the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives
United Way of Massachusetts Bay supporter
Initiator, Co-Chair and Member of the Faith and Action Committee serving at-risk youth
United Way Board Member
United Way Executive Committee
United Way Community Impact Committee
Involved with the international program Right to Play
Volunteers time and leadership to equine therapy programs to physically disadvantaged children
Volunteers for the annual Scholastic Reading event
Volunteers for Partners for Youth with Disabilities
Volunteers for the American Red Cross
Volunteers for the Perkins School for the Blind
Was a Board Member for the Massachusetts Children’s Trust Fund
Received the 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award from Operation Kids
Director of Best Friends addressing needs of inner-city girls
Volunteer instructor at Mother Caroline Academy
Board Member of Families First
Served on the Women’s Cancer Advisory Board of Massachusetts General Hospital
Earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University
Hate her religion, hate her politics, even hate her husband. She isn't the stay-at-home mom she has been criticized for being, even though a lot of new moms definitely would prefer to be "stay-at-home" moms, despite the extra work it would mean for them.
If she doesn't need to work for money, because her husband makes enough, then it is better that she is involved in the community and in charities, than if she really were to "stay at home" doing nothing. Now I see she wasn't doing nothing and wasn't just supervising nannies either. She's like a Princess Di without the crown, glamour, titles, or the British Royal Family. I have to admit, I have more respect for her now. I wonder why these didn't come up when she was first criticized for being a stay-at-home mom. At least I didn't hear anything about them.

Yes - that is an impressive list of achievements. & all credit to you (& this forum) for the post. No doubt she can afford the level of help & support at home she'd need to be so active but she's clearly chosen the path of involvement. Why isn't she running for Pres?

Thank you for your objectivity, Scousette.
I suppose as a politician Romney isn't much different than most of the others.
He may have more ambition, and feel more strongly called to serve.
But I do not want a Mormon president.
The same applies to Ann Romney.
Whatever her accomplishments - they look okay, I haven't followed up to verify them, or see which was real work and which were "honorary" things - I still am uncomfortable on the basis of her membership in the Mormon church.
It's the attitudes and feeling that so many things need to be kept secret or be misrepresented. It's too much a part of their culture, more imo than in Washington DC culture. But maybe it's the same. :(

Agreed - about not wanting a Mormon President but, hopefully, voters won't return Mitt. I think I was a bit tongue in cheek in suggesting that she should've stood - the list makes it look like she's got some hinterland. She seems to have been active in volunteering and fundraising for MS - if she's spending time on these activities, maybe less to spend on any callings. But, like I said, she'll have the resources to buy in all the help that she needs.
