Hello All,
As some of you know, in early August my wife, kids, and I sent in our resignation letters to COB. We got their normal response about it being a local matter, and said the local leadership had to fill out the paper work and send it in. After 45 days of not receiving our final "You're OUT" letters, I called the membership dept. asking about the delay. As I posted a couple weeks ago, they were very nice, polite and sincere. They had not gotten the paperwork from the local leadership, but committed to call the BP and SP. Two weeks after that call and still no letters, I called the membership department again and inquired about the delay.
The gentleman I spoke to said that if it had been 60 days since they received our resignation letters, he could complete our resignation without coordinating with the local leadership. If it had been less 60 days, he would still have to coordinate with them.
This seems to be a departure from the process in the past. Now the membership dept. seems to have the autonomy and authority to process your resignation even if the BP and SP are dragging their feet.
Two days later now, and I just noticed that my login and DW's login to the ward website and the church family of websites are no longer active. When we try to login, it says "Only members of the LDS Church can access this site." Since those accounts are tied to the church membership database, I think that means our names have been removed. I'll be checking the PO Box today to see if the letters are there.
(As an aside, we setup the PO Box specifically to handle our resignation. Since we had just moved into a new ward and no one knew our house address, we thought this was a good way to eliminate unwanted contact with the ward. It's kind of tough to love bomb or harass us if you don't know where we live. Just a helpful little tip if you are in a similar situation where the church does not know where you live, but you still want to resign without giving them your address.)
I see this as a good sign, folks. I think it means that the membership department is adjusting their process to ease resignations.
I'll keep all of you posted.

My guess is that the intent is not to ease the process for the soon to be ex-Mormon but rather to avoid legal action. But you're right, it's a good thing.

Smart move with the PO Box address change...no need to leave a nice warm scent trail for the bloodhounds to follow up on.
Keep us posted on new developments or the arrival of your graduation certificates..we'll celibrate with all of you and your family...

Just an update that we finally received our letters from CoB in the PO Box today. It feels good to have some solid closure.
DW and I are just about to crack a bottle of Roederer Estate Brut Champagne.
Cheers, my friends!

As I've mentioned before, we need to re-do Mormon Resignation.
Hopefully this January, those of us here on the EMF will re-do the whole site.

Faxes now? Cool.
I saw one post on RFM several months ago about them emailing and it worked. That, I passed skeptical. It still requires a signature as emails could be forged.

I wonder if you scanned your signed document into a read only adobe and then emailed it to them. That might work
